Pleasure Island: 2014The 2014 season at Pleasure Island is well under way and, after a recent visit to the park, we thought we'd produce an update on what's new this year at Pleasure Island...
This year the management are marketing new animal paddocks at Furry Friends Farm as the new additions for 2014. This interesting investment see's the range of animal species at the farm increased to 12 with new alpacas, emus and ducks this season. To accommodate these new animals three new enclosures have been created. The existing cow paddock has been split into two with a fence down the middle. One side accommodates the cows still and the other side now accommodates the new alpacas. The emus new paddock has been created on a spare patch of grassland between the farms tractor ride and the barn. Perhaps the most interesting new animal paddock is the one hosting the new flock of ducks. Instead of finding these ducks along the other animals in the centre of the farm area, riders of the tractor ride will find the ducks tucked away in their own corner in a new paddock situated around the park's waterfall, which the tractor ride encircles before returning riders to the station. This scenic paddock hides behind a hill covered in blooming flowers, which conceals the waterfall, and along with a new pond dug out for the ducks and a wooden duck house, looks very flamboyant, providing a final treat for riders before they exit the tractor ride. In addition to the new farm paddocks, certain rides and buildings have been repainted this season. Interestingly, the children's Mini Dodgems ride has been moved into an old show building in the Morocco area. This old show building, which was previously home to the Tommy Tinkaboo show before being shut up for a many years, has had it's doors re-opened and has been given a new lease of life now that it is accommodating the Mini Dodgems ride. It also adds another indoor attraction to the parks rides line up, which, given the unpredictable British weather, is more than welcome. Rather than leaving the space which previously hosted the Mini Dodgems empty, a children's roundabout ride from Tinkaboo Town has been moved to the spot. The ride is called the Dreamy Dragons and has now been repainted green. It is situated between the Gravitron and Fatimas Fish & Chips building where the Mini Dodgems previously sat. Moving the Dreamy Dragons would now mean a space has been left in Tinkaboo Town, so the management have also put another ride in Tinkaboo Town to combat this. It is another roundabout ride that the park have had in storage for many years after it was removed from the ride line-up. The ride appears to be in the style of children's toys and is situated in Tinkaboo Town where the Dreamy Dragons previously sat. This season both the Astra Slide and Razzle Dazzle have received minor revamps. The Astra slide has new wooden fencing at the bottom of the slide and has also received a repaint. The ride now has a simplified colour scheme of blue and red only; there is no longer any yellow paint on the slide (except for the supports). We feel that this makes the ride look less tacky and that it looks more like it belongs in a theme park and not a fairground. The Razzle Dazzle has received new wooden fencing over the previous metal fencing. Again, this also makes the Razzle Dazzle look more like a solid theme park ride than a travelling fairground ride. Other improvements this year include a new wooden fence around the Sea Lion show, making it look more appealing. The majority of buildings in the Morocco and Spain area of the park have received repaints, some with new colour schemes. Sadly, some attractions have also been removed this season. Both the Skating Rink and Aquasphere have now been removed. The land on which Aquasphere previously stood is now empty, however, with the Aquasphere's fence still in place. The land previously home to the skating rink has been given a wooden theme and converted into a fenced off picnic area with tables and chairs, a nice touch. Overall, the 2014 season may not have seen a large sum of money pumped into Pleasure Island, however, this year the management have managed to retain what they already have and haven given the park a welcome spruce up, along with a fun selection of new animals too. New Park Guide For 2014This year Pleasure Island have revamped their park guide after just two years of the previous guide. The new guide has a more modern and professional look than any of it's predecessors. This years colour scheme consists of a majority of the colour red, coupled with the colour blue for feature sections.
In the new guide, the system of labelling rides has been changed. The previous three ride categories (White Knuckle Rides, Family Rides and Kiddies Rides) still remain, however, two new ride categories have also been added and rides are now displayed under these categories on the inside of the park guide, making navigation of the park map easier. The ride categories now consist of: White Knuckle Rides, Family Rides & Attractions, Kiddies Rides, Pink Knuckle Rides (thrilling rides considered too intense to be Family Rides but are not White Knuckle Rides) and Additional Attractions (Miscellaneous attractions: Cycle Monorail, Adult Dodgems & Go Karts).
