2012 Season Goes Out With A Bang! - Roll on 2013...Pleasure Island's 2012 season went out with a bang after the magnificent firework weekend ended the season with style. This year the park treated guests to a 20 minute firework show on the lake, complete with sci-fi music to contribute to the 'outer space' theme of the weekend. Music included the Doctor Who tune, Men In Black theme song and Starships by Nicki Minaj. Rides were also operational in the dark and were all working at full capacity as the park was absolutely packed with people. With music also playing around the park, there was certainly a brilliant atmosphere about on both nights! A brilliant end to the season and well done to all staff and management for working harder than ever throughout Pleasure Island's brilliant 2012 season.
The park may be closed now, but behind the scenes work is already under-way for next years season, which is Pleasure Island's 20th anniversary! All the rides will be having their winter maintenance, which includes being stripped down and thoroughly checked and tweaked. Construction on the new farm themed area will also be getting under-way as shed's will need to be constructed, enclosures will need to be set up, bits of ground will most likely need to be ripped up and the Electric Monorail will also be revamped into a tractor and trailer ride that will travel around and above the animals enclosures. And most importantly, animals will need to be sought and bought. Roll on 2013... We will also be keeping you up to date on a brilliant new project called Project Island, which will see Pleasure Island recreated in PC game, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 for the first time ever! We are trying to get it made as accurate to the park as possible, this includes building all the park's buildings and rides in the correct place, creating custom scenery, rides and tracks too. The project was started by a member on our forum known as Benny115 and you can find his dedicated website here: http://projectisland.weebly.com/ The project is due to be completed and available for download in early 2013, a brilliant way to celebrate the park's 20th anniversary! We will be keeping you updated on this exciting new project until it's release. Discuss this topic on our forum. Stay tuned to Terrific Tinkaboo as even though the park is closed we will still be bringing you the latest news and will be frequently updating pages on our website. Pleasure Island to invest in Farm Area and tractor ride for 2013.Half a million pounds is to be spent on a new petting farm and tractor ride for Pleasure Island's 2013 season!
Director of the park Melanie Wood confirmed to the Grimsby Telegraph that the two-and-a-half acres of land will be host to a brand new farm themed area, which will see the electric monorail revamped into a tractor ride. The ride will last "for about four minutes and will take people through and over the farm for an aerial view." states Mrs Wood. The farm will consist of many animals, including pigs, sheep and miniature horses. The aim of this new attraction is to reach out to children 9 and under as Mrs Wood states that "building a farm will hopefully give them a lot more to do and see" and that she wants to "attract more schools to spend the day here." We believe that the tractor ride will use the same track as the electric monorail (which was previously up for sale) but with the cars revamped into tractors and the track re-painted, costing £150,000. A further £350,000 will be spent on creating the animal pens which will be scattered around the monorails track. "So there will be digging, putting up fences and adding sheds, and generally making it look more appealing to visitors." As the area has been in need of development for some time. The park had previously planned a farm area and tractor ride for 2011, but with smaller animals (guinea pigs, rabbits, etc) being situated in the carousel building and a new tractor ride replacing the electric monorail as well as the carousel and go-kart's being removed, but now it seems management have come up with a better plan. The ride is expected to open on 29th March 2013, with the park's entry price staying the same at only £18.50. Also a local competition has been launched by the park, to find a name for the new attraction. We will be bringing you regular updates on this new development, watch this space! Pleasure Island's 2012 Paintwork & improvements. While there may have been no new investments in attractions for Pleasure Island this year, the park have still invested in many other things, including, a new park guide, replacing signs, re-painting the Paratrooper and the Galleon's walls. There has recently been some more painting too. Both of the Annabel Train's stations have been re-painted and the park are also re-painting all the games stall buildings in the Kiddies Cove area into a fresh blue colour, with the Lakeside Kiosk also being painted the same colour. The park are re-painting the Mini Mine Train's queue line fence as well. Also with the farm area due to freshen up the old Kiddies Kingdom area in 2013, it shows us that management are certainly making an effort to have the park looking appealing to the public.

Paratrooper DIsmantled
The Paratrooper ride is out of action and has been completely dismantled. Pictures show the ride layed on the floor in bits. Part of the area adjacent to the ride have also been fenced off, which suggests that the ride may be being moved, possibly to the maintenance sheds. It is currently unknown why the ride has been dismantled in the middle of the season, but this could suggest that it is going for it's maintenance early or that the maintenance team have found a minor fault in the ride and are correcting it. It is unlikely that the ride will be leaving as it was freshly painted for the start of the 2012 season. EDIT - The ride is now back up and running after being temporarily down, to fix a fault with the hydraulics.

Terror Rack Incident
A member of our Pleasure Island forum (terrifictinkaboo.freeforums.org) reported that Terror Rack, the top spin attraction, had a minor breakdown yesterday with him on it. He claims that one of the second harnesses (one of two metal cages that surround half of the riders each and their individual harnesses) opened when the ride spun upside down, causing the ride to automatically go into safety mode and halt in an upright position. The maintenance team then arrived, evacuated him and tested the ride. After being deemed safe, it was back open to the public after around 30 minutes.

Carnival Party Night A Huge Success!
After the last ever Cleethorpes Carnival ended outside Pleasure Island, the park remained open until 9pm! The park was busy during normal opening hours that day, but then at the late opening even more people flooded towards the park! There was queues for almost every ride and there was a great atmosphere about too. Everyone seemed happy, despite the park being crowded and even as it started to turn cold, people were still enjoying themselves.

"Worst Start To The Season Since opening 20 Years Ago" But the park aren't giving up!
In a Grimsby telegraph article about the recent drought, Melanie Wood, the director of Pleasure Island stated that it had been the "worst start to the season since opening 20 years ago" and went on to say “The effect to business has been as you would expect. Numbers are significantly down on all previous years. We are approximately 60 per cent down on last year."
Despite this bad new as Mrs Wood said "we have to remain positive and believe change is around the corner" and it has been so far with two hot and sunny weekends attracting lots more guests to the park. Pleasure Island is not giving up in these difficult times though as they announced three offers on their Facebook in a poll, so guests could vote for which offer they wanted for the half term and the offer that received the most votes was the buy one get one free offer, which is now available to print off on the park's Facebook. Also the park are handing out half price vouchers for up to four people to people as they leave the park. Another improvement is the park's new playground (which opened on June 1st) next to their McCormack's Family Bar as well as a new sign for white knuckle ride Alakazam. At the start of the year the park also did some cleaning up and replaced/added signs as well as painting some themeing for The Galleon pirate ship and re-painting their Paratrooper ride too. More pictures will be on our media page soon. Lets hope for a nice hot summer ahead for the park to thrive and a busy half term too! Sunday, 3rd June 2012 Leave a comment |
Masai Warriors Return To Pleasure Island
The muchly missed Masai Warriors are back from Tanzania and returned to Pleasure Island yesterday to yet again perform in the Masai Warrior Show! The Masai Warriors perform deadly stunts and acrobatics in a 15 minute show situated in the dome in the Africa area. (Please note the park website and guide refers to them as the African Acrobats, but the sign on the show building say Masai Warriors, so we use that name instead and it sounds better too!)
Terrific Tinkaboo filmed the whole Masai Warriors show which will be available on our YouTube channel soon! Youtube.com/terrifictinkaboo Sunday, 3rd June 2012 Leave a comment |
New Playground For McCormack's
A few weeks ago, the McCormack's playground was dismantled, only to be replaced with a new bigger and better one! The new playground is made out of wood and consists of many things including, a slide, climbing ropes, balancing ropes, bridges and a pole to slide down. The original playground has been put back up behind the new playground and is ideal for the smaller kids, while the new playground is for kids over 7. The playground area now has a new safety surface too. McCormack's and it's playground are situated outside the park in the main forecourt area, so no park entry is required!
